Hello! Welcome to our new little endeavor. My name is Edmund Mitchell and my wife Danielle and I wanted to give you some backstory on why we created a Catholic subscription box company.
But first some back story on who we are.
Edmund graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville and works as a Director of Youth Evangelization and Catechesis (read: youth minster) in Grapevine, Texas. He’s been a youth minister going on 5 years now and loves every second of it.
Danielle is a Texas native who loves cooking and riding horses. She grew up in a small town north of Dallas. She’s a small town Texas cow girl who’s been in a few barrel racing competitions and knows how to shoot a turtle from across a pond while drinking Shiner beer.
We both met for the first time in the cafeteria at Steubenville.
I (Edmund) sat down across from this cute girl and tried to make small talk.
What year are you? What are you majoring in? Where are you from?
“Oh, Texas? Do you own any guns?”
At which point Danielle laughed out loud. Like in my face. Apparently a dumb question…
And the rest is a beautiful love story.
We got married and now four years later we have four kids and we’re missing some of our sanity but life is beautiful and worth every minute.
Danielle and I have always talked about starting some type of business together. Being a youth minister isn’t exactly like being a stock broker but we are beyond blessed to be able to support a large family without Danielle being forced to work.
I’ve always dabbled in making things. I love creating and making things that people will love and use, especially things that bring them closer to Jesus or surprise and delight people.
Over the years I’ve grown and learned a ton dabbling with Reverb Culture, a young adult community focused on wild orthodoxy. It’s pretty rad. You should check it out.
Danielle and I had the idea to bring all the cool Catholic artists, products, and companies that we’ve come across over the years and share them with people. People are always asking where we find all the Catholic stuff we come across, and both Danielle and I take pride in supporting these inspiring Catholics who create.
We both loved the idea of a box that not only brought you Catholic products and art that you could be proud of, but also building a community of people praying together and growing in their faith together.
And out of many…many conversations (Danielle: He had to work hard to convince me that this wasn’t just another crazy idea that would never really work out in real life…And to convince me that it would be worth doing.) we finally decided to at least give ourselves a deadline and to send the idea out into the world and at least try it.
We came up with the idea of Daylights, a mini-magazine and daily devotional that will be included in each box. These would be a great way for people to dive into their faith daily throughout the month and also would be a common reflection that the entire community could share with each other.
We also decided that instead of just throwing a bunch of stuff in a box, we would do interviews and interact with the Catholics behind the brands and art and music.
And finally, we decided that each year we would pick an amazing Catholic ministry or organization to donate a portion of the subscriptions too.
And thus… LumiBox was born!
We worked hard over a couple weeks to put together a website (Danielle: and we spent way too long thinking up a name… more on that later…) and started a list of awesome Catholic small businesses and artists and musicians we love and would love to support and help more Catholics find.
We realized that even just this list of Catholic goodness would help people find and support awesome Catholic businesses and artists, so we designed a little ebook to give away for free on the site and to send to people as a thank you for joining the email newsletter.
We are so excited to being this journey together and will be praying that this little box of gifts blesses people and builds a wonderful community of Catholics growing in their faith together.
Please feel free to reach out to us at any time! We love all the support and feedback we are hearing from you all.
